The Supernatural is Available to Us Today

Do you desire to see the supernatural operate through your life? Do you long to see healings, miracles, signs, and wonders occur on a regular basis? Do you want to find and be part of a church that models what we see in the book of Acts? My goal is to help restore the supernatural in the church and to empower individuals to walk in confidence in releasing the gifts of the Spirit in their lives. The supernatural is supposed to be the norm for the church, not the exception. 

We don’t need to return to the times of the book of Acts but to the principles upon which the early church was founded. That is the Word, the Spirit, the blood, the cross, His name, His presence, and His healing power. We should not settle for anything less than a church operating in the power of God with regular demonstrations of the Spirit that set people free and draw them to the Lord. His church is a supernatural church that is distinct from every other religion and social club. We follow a resurrected Christ who is alive and present to do what He did when He walked the earth. 

Slick programs and marketing campaigns are poor substitutes for the presence of God and the power of God! Yet that is what many churches have degraded into today. There is a huge disparity between dead, dry religion and a genuine move of the Spirit birthed by the ministry of the Word, the presence of God, and demonstrations of the Spirit of God. People are looking for the real deal today. They are hungry for the supernatural power of God and the Word of God. 

I haven’t always known the true power of God and operated in the supernatural. I wasn’t raised in a strong Christian home. My parents were divorced when I was eight years of age. My mom and grandparents would take me occasionally to a denominational church in the city I lived in the Midwest. If I ever heard the message of the gospel taught one time when I attended that church, I don’t know it. 

A couple of times during my teenage years I attended a Pentecostal church with one of my friends. What I observed there was the appearance of the supernatural, but it did not seem genuine. The preacher would stand up and preach (yell) for an hour. Every time he would say “God,” he said it like this, “God-ah.” I guess he thought the volume of his preaching and the way he said God would release a greater anointing. Then it seemed like he was manipulating a move of the Spirit in the people by shaming them and “condemning” them to come down to the altar and get their lives right with God. 

During that time, I watched a few TV programs with Kathryn Kuhlman and Oral Roberts where they were ministering the Word and healing the sick. I was really attracted to these ministries. They were seeing many miracles, and people would share their healing testimonies. It was hard to deny this was the real supernatural power of God I had read about in the gospels and the book of Acts. And it was happening again today! 

The other thing that attracted me to these two ministries is they both seemed so genuine, sincere, and full of the love of God. I asked the Lord, “How do they perform miracles and see so many people healed and saved in their ministries and crusades? Was there something special about them that caused You to choose them and use them in these ways? Or could it be possible that John 14:12 I had read many times was true and we could all operate in the supernatural power of God?” 

Most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father (John 14:12). 

I didn’t hear the Lord speak anything to me at that time. There was just a strong sense in my heart that the supernatural was still for the church today and available to those who believed what Jesus said in John 14:12. The problem was I did not know any individuals or churches that believed and modeled this.

It is not possible to seek the Lord regarding something He has promised in His Word and it not be fulfilled. 

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). 

At this time my wife and I found a Christian television network that broadcast in our area. It was called the 700 Club. Pat Robertson and Ben Kinchlow were the hosts. Each program highlighted supernatural testimonies of God’s saving, delivering, and healing power in the lives of people.

I could see the love of God in their eyes and feel it coming from their hearts through these broadcasts directly into my heart. Could it be God was answering my prayer by leading me to watch this program? They began to teach about the book of Acts and the things we read there were available for each of us today. Then they taught about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. They said this was a subsequent experience to salvation and it was essential to operating in the supernatural. They showed us in the Word when the church started, all the disciples were filled with the Spirit and received a new spiritual language—tongues. This gave them power to go out and witness and do the works of Jesus! 

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). 

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4). 

They said that receiving the Baptism in the Spirit was the key to releasing the supernatural in our lives and seeing the same things we read about in the book of Acts manifest today. I had never heard about this in any of the churches I had attended. Within a few weeks my wife and I were both filled with the Spirit. We also found a Spirit-filled church that taught and believed in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, and the healing power of God. Once we received the Baptism in the Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, my wife and I both became much more sensitive to the Holy Spirit and available to release the gifts of the Spirit and minister healing to others. 

This was amazing. None of this happened prior to us being filled with the Spirit. But now we were seeing supernatural things manifest in and through our lives on a regular basis.

For more than four decades now, my wife and I have experienced signs, wonders, and miracles. The supernatural has operated freely through our lives. We have witnessed the blind see, the deaf hear, and the lame walk. I was healed of cancer in 1977. Our son, Michael, was healed of a serious muscular, arthritic condition the following year.

We have seen scores of people healed through our church, ministry, and through previous books I have written. We have also witnessed literally thousands of normal, average, everyday believers and church members heal the sick, perform miracles, and move in the supernatural. We are living now in Acts chapter 29! Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is still doing through His church what He did when He walked the earth. 

So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21). 

Whatever you see Jesus doing in the gospels and the church doing in the book of Acts, He has sent you and me to do.

I pray that you will be filled with the Spirit, receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus, and the eyes of your understanding will be enlightened to know all that is available to you to do His works and move in the supernatural!
